Blanchet House of Hospitality has been serving Portland since 1952. It has been located at the corner of NW 4th and Glisan since it began. Blanchet provides food, clothing and shelter to those in need in our community. Over 58- year period, Blanchet has served over 14 million meals to the hungry. Generally, meals are served three times per day, six days a week.
Close to thirty men live in the upper floors of Blanchet’s current facility. Most are in some form of rehab. Blanchet House is an alcohol and drug free environment. For their room and board, the men work a six-hour shift every day in the kitchen and the eating area. Generally, they stay at Blanchet House’s facility about three months.
For many years, Blanchet has owned a working farm in Yamhill County near Carlton. About 30 men, in various stages of recovery, work on the farm for their room and board. The farm has chickens, pigs and a garden. Much of the food generated at the farm is taken to the Blanchet House to be used for meals. In addition, a significant woodworking facility is located at the farm. Most men stay at the farm for about three months before they are ready to go out on their own. Blanchet also owns the Riley House on NW 18th St. in Portland which is used for housing and is also our administrative headquarters.
The Blanchet House building is over 100 years old and is deteriorating quickly. After working closely with the Portland Development Commission over the last several years to find a new home for Blanchet, in the first part of 2009 we reached agreement to build a new building. The new facility will be located on the corner of NW 3rd and Glisan and will be exchanged for the current property on NW 4th and Glisan.
A major capital campaign to raise the funds required for the new facility has been started. Click the link below to donate. Blanchet House of Hospitality is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization with a significant annual donor base of over 1,200 individuals. The organization is managed by Executive Director, Brian Ferschweiler, and has an active Board of Directors that meets on a regular basis.
