Sitting at the Northwest corner of SW Alder St and SW Broadway, the Alderway building first opened in 1911 as the Pantages Theater. The venue brought the vaudeville entertainment genre to Portland until the mid-1920s, when it closed. After that, Chicago architects Clausen & Clausen significantly renovated the building, incorporating office and retail space and remodeling it to reflect a Chicago School style of architecture that featured terra cotta, grid-style windows, and ornamental “peaks.”
In 2022, Melvin Mark Investors acquired the 46,000 square-foot property consisting of four stories, a basement, and a penthouse, with plans to redesign the existing storefronts and update the main office lobby entrance.
Located in the heart of Downtown Portland, the Alderway Building sits just blocks from a variety of hotels, shops, and office & retail buildings including The Woodlark Hotel, The Galleria, Nordstrom, Pioneer Courthouse Square, The West End Building, and the Pacific Northwest’s first-ever Ritz-Carlton Hotel & Residences.
